Flipped
By:Baxter Banwell
I chose to read the book Flipped. It’s about two characters who don’t know each other at first but at the end they become good friends. Bryce is one of the main characters in the book. He’s in eighth grade, has blue eyes, black hair and a good smile. He had a pretty easy life until the girl Julie moved across the street and started causing trouble.
Even though Bryce and Julie have been neighbors for over a year Bryce and Julie don’t know each other very well, except for the fact that Bryce doesn’t like Julie but Julie likes Bryce a lot and has a crush on him.
Bryce is the kind of guy who likes to keep things to himself. He likes to stay huddled up in his room and only hang out with certain people. Julie is the exact opposite. During the whole book Julie is trying to become friends with everyone and stay busy all the time.
Julie is a girl with long blonde hair and likes to do things her way. One of her favorite things to do was climb in an old Sycamore tree and swing on the branches and watch the sunset. Julie likes Bryce a lot but he doe’s a lot of things that make her angry during the book. One of the things is, one day Julie is playing on the old Sycamore tree waiting for the bus. A few moments later men arrived with chainsaws saying Julie had to get out of the tree because they were going to cut down the tree. Just as Julie was about to get out of the tree Bryce arrived. Julie begged Bryce to come up the tree and help her save it but Bryce ignored her and got on the bus. Later that day the big, old, gnarly Sycamore tree was cut down.
I really enjoyed this book because it showed two peoples perspectives, like when Julie asked Bryce to come up in the Sycamore tree it showed what Bryce was thinking and what Julie was thinking. This book is good for people of all ages because it is a good, fun book.
I think the best part of the entire book was when 20 boys got chosen to be basket boys. A basked boy is a boy who get bids from girls to have lunch with that boy. Bryce gets 210 dollars for just having two girls eat with him. Also the two girls who bid on him are the two most popular girls in the entire school. What makes me laugh is at that time Bryce was starting to like Julie so he went to sit by Julie in stead of the most popular girls in school
Overall this is a very good book for all ages. It show that just because you don’t like someone at first doesn’t mean you wont like them later. Also it show that you shouldn’t judge someone by their look or how they act. I would give this book 4 stars out of 5.

  1. Baxter- Pt 1- briefly touch on the two characters, but I’d like to see you label both of them with at least three adjectives. Also 400 words gives you plenty of time to delve deep. You do not.

Pt 2 – many spelling errors, far too short. Explore these areas…what makes that the best part of the book-explain why choosing to sit by her was better than the sitting by the 2 most popular girls in school. Dig deeper, Baxter.
